Biography
Raul G Loya is a freelance artist who specialises in mural painting, illustration and printmaking. He was born in Mexico City and since 2008 he is based in Manchester, UK. He’s fluent in both Spanish and English languages.
Raul graduated in 2002 at the Faculty of Art and Design formerly known as the National School of Fine Art, Mexico City.
Raul’s style is predominantly inspired and influenced by the Mexican muralist movement, Posada’s skeletons and Rock & Roll album covers, he works with a wide variety of techniques with a strong preference for handmade methods that enable direct contact with tools and materials.
Raul is versatile in his choice of media. His illustrations are mainly hand-drawn on paper, coloured-in with specialised software and inkjet printed to fine art standards. However, depending on the type of artwork or commission, he will favour traditional processes such as linocut, screen printing or etching.
In 2013, Raul funded La Chuleta Press, an independent illustration and printmaking project specialised in the creation of mural paintings, fine art prints, T-Shirts, greeting cards, illustrations and other printed products.
Raul’s clients include: The V&A Museum, London (UK); Selina Hostals, Manchester UK; Manchester City Council; Wilbraham Primary School (UK); Adactus Housing Group (UK); Nodo MX (Spain); PS Mirabel Studios & Gallery (UK); 20th Century Fox (USA); Walt Disney Productions (USA) and private collectors.
Raul’s work has been exhibited in the United Kingdom, Spain, USA and Mexico at venues such as The Manchester Cervantes Institute, Bury Art Gallery, UK; El Campo de la Cebada, Spain; Leftist Lounge, Chicago; The Hot Bed Press, Bankley Gallery, PS Mirabel, amongst others.

Raúl Gutiérrez Loya es un artista independiente que se especializa en pintura mural, ilustración y artes gráficas. Nació en la Ciudad de México y desde 2008 reside en Manchester, Reino Unido. Habla español e inglés con fluidez.
Su arte está influenciado principalmente por el muralismo mexicano, las calaveras de Posada y las portadas de álbumes de Rock & Roll.
Terminó sus estudios en 2002 en la Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas, UNAM (ahora conocida como Facultad de artes y diseño) en la Ciudad de México.
Raúl trabaja con una amplia variedad de técnicas artísticas, mostrando una fuerte predilección por las técnicas tradicionales con las cuales disfruta del contacto directo con herramientas y materiales, por ejemplo, su ilustración la mayor parte del tiempo parte de un dibujo hecho con tinta sobre papel, el cual es posteriormente coloreado en Photoshop e impreso por medio del proceso digital de inyección de tinta. Otras veces, el procedimiento completo se realiza a través de impresión tradicional, creando Linografías, serigrafías o grabados.
En 2013, Raúl fundó La Chuleta Press, un proyecto independiente especializado en ilustración y estampado que produce diseños para crear carteles, camisetas, tarjetas de felicitación y otros productos impresos.
Sus clientes incluyen: V&A Museum, Londres RU; Selina Hostales, Manchester RU; Manchester City Council, Escuela primaria Wilbraham, RU; Adactus Housing Group, RU; Nodo MX (España); PS Mirabel Studios & Gallery, RU; 20th Century Fox (Estados Unidos); Walt Disney Productions, EU y algunos otros coleccionistas privados.
El trabajo de Raúl ha sido exhibido en el Reino Unido, España, Estados Unidos y México, en lugares como el Instituto Cervantes de Manchester, Galería de Arte Bury, RU; El Campo de la Cebada en Madrid, España; Leftist Lounge en Chicago, en Hot Bed Press, la Galería Bankley, PS Mirabel, entre otros.
